Niagara Falls Museum Mummy 9
NFM M9

Mummy M9 is a child's mummy, now measuring about 56 cm in length. X-rays suggest that the child was about 1.5 years old at death. Mummification has been carried out, and the brain removed through the nose, and the cranial cavity stuffed with cloth.

A curious feature of this mummy is that both legs had been amputated. It is reasonable to speculate that the body of this child had been disturbed by grave robbers who damaged or destroyed the tibia; the body could then have been restored by priests. The style of the bandaging would suggest a date in Greco-Roman times.
